CARES takes major step forward in global constructional steel certification

An important new vote of confidence in CARES as one of the leading players in steel product certification worldwide has just been confirmed in Singapore.

The Singapore Accreditation Council (SAC) has announced that CARES is now accredited to provide product certification to the Singapore reinforcing steel standard, SS 560.

The announcement represents “very significant additional international recognition” said Lee Brankley, CARES Chief Executive Officer. “The SAC is a prestigious accreditation body. We are delighted to have achieved this accreditation for our product certification scheme, covering building and constructional steel products.”

Mr Brankley said that accreditation from SAC had been achieved as the direct result of the “commitment and diligence” of a hard-working team, liaising closely with the relevant authorities to understand the local needs and expectations of a new product certification scheme.

The SAC announcement is a further critical step in CARES’ long-term ‘Think Global Act Local’ strategy which in recent months has also seen CARES opening a new regional office in Hong Kong, as well as enhancing  its influence across the Middle East and Asia.

“Specifiers, manufacturers and traders increasingly demand certainty in the quality management of steel products entering the construction supply chain, and we are very pleased that CARES product certification services are now required in a growing number of global markets,” added Mr Brankley.

Enterprise Singapore manages the SAC on behalf of the Singapore government and its accreditation standards are designed to provide consistency across a number of sectors. The specification for the SAC’s SS 560 standard covers steel products used in the reinforcement of concrete; weldable reinforcing steel including bar, coil and decoiled products.
