Andy Kirkcaldy

CARES is very saddened to learn of the sudden death of our valued colleague, and distinguished steel industry executive, Andy Kirkcaldy.

Andy was a founding figure in the formation of CARES 40 years ago and a hugely influential presence across the sector, playing an active and influential role throughout his time with CARES, where he served on the Board from 1987 until 2002.

Andy was also a highly regarded member of the CARES PAC for the past eight years, combining that role with senior positions elsewhere in the industry, including as Chairman of BIRFA, the independent fabricators’ association.

He worked for a number of steel manufacturers in technical and commercial roles during a career spanning more than four decades and provided insightful support, and wise counsel, to clients in his more recent work as an independent advisor via PHB Steel Consultants.

CARES Chief Executive Officer Lee Brankley described Mr Kirkcaldy as “an absolutely first class, knowledgeable and supportive colleague.

“The news of Andy’s sudden death has shocked not only the entire team here at CARES but the many colleagues worldwide who were fortunate to know Andy,” said Mr Brankley. “His expertise and the depth of knowledge he demonstrated throughout his career were Andy’s hallmarks.

“On behalf of the Board, and all the CARES team, I would like to pass on our condolences to Andy’s family and friends,” he added. “Our thoughts are with them at this very difficult time.”
