CARES issues newly updated Guides for reinforcing steels
31/03/2023
The full suite of CARES Guides to Product Certification are undergoing a
complete review and update, encompassing all the technical, safety,
sustainability and digital changes the industry has seen since the last major
overhaul of the Guides in 2011.
The revised CARES Guide Part 2 – Manufacturing processes for reinforcing
steels is available now as a PDF download via the Guide to Reinforcing Steels page.
The CARES Guide, Part 2, covers the different manufacturing processes used
in the manufacture of reinforcing steel and the differing characteristics these
processes have on the materials sourced by specifiers, purchasers and users. In
this Guide, the latest in an ongoing series of revisions and updates to CARES
Guides for reinforcing steels, the various processes used in reinforcing steel
manufacture are set out, providing information which will assist all those
sourcing, or using, these products.
The updated Part 2 Guide sets out, in a clear and accessible format, the
most common reinforcing steel process routes. Process stages including
fabrication (cutting and bending); continuous casting of billets; cold
processing (stretching or rolling) and the manufacture of welded fabric are
explained, plus other stages.
As clients rightly specify ever more rigorous responsible sourcing
requirements in the manufacture, procurement and delivery of constructional
steels, the CARES Guides address each aspect of these processes. Over a dozen
updated CARES Guides will be released in the coming months, each focusing in
detail on a specific area of reinforcing steels.
